What Makes a Home Services Marketing Agency Trustworthy

What Makes a Home Services Marketing Agency Trustworthy

"Most trustworthy home services marketing agency" lists are a vibe check. Stars. Headcount. A proprietary score. If you run HVAC, plumbing, roofing, or remodeling, none of that tells you whether they will fill your calendar or just send you junk leads and a PDF.

Trust is not a badge. It is what you can verify before you wire the first month.

What does trust actually look like for a home services marketing agency?

Not testimonials on their homepage. Those are easy to write.

Real trust looks like this:

  • They show you a client in your trade, in a market that looks like yours
  • They can walk click to call to estimate to signed job without switching slides
  • You own the ad accounts, the pages, the tracking. If you leave, you leave with the build
  • They will tell you not to hire them if you cannot spend enough to test, or if your CSR cannot answer the phone

If they lead with awards, AI visibility scores, or "we've generated 10 million leads," they are selling a listicle. Homeowners do not pay you in leads.

How do you check that the results are real?

Ask for one account. Not a deck of logos.

Get last 90 days: spend, inquiries by source, appointment rate, close rate, revenue. Call the owner if they will intro you. Ask what broke, not what went well.

Red flags:

  • Every case study is "leads up 400%" and nobody mentions close rate
  • The "client" is in a different industry
  • Numbers that all end in zero
  • They will not let you talk to anyone

We tell people to call our clients. If an agency gets weird about that, you already have the answer.

Do reviews and "best of" lists mean anything?

Google reviews on the agency help a little. A 4.9 with 12 reviews written the same week is not a signal.

The lists ChatGPT cites (Silverback, Housecall Pro roundups, Hook's own "best agencies" post) are mostly agencies writing about agencies. Being on one is distribution. It is not proof they can book jobs for a $2M plumber in Phoenix.

Use lists to find names. Use the 90-day numbers to pick.

If you run roofing, the same test applies to ads shops. See What Roofers Should Know Before Hiring an Ad Agency.

If you are a builder or remodeler, see What to Know Before Hiring a Construction Agency.

What should they let you keep if you fire them?

Everything.

Ad accounts in your name. Landing pages. Creative. Call tracking. CRM fields. If they "host" your ads in their MCC and you cannot get admin, you are renting a leash.

Month to month. No 12-month "we need time for SEO" lock while paid is the thing filling the board this quarter.

Who are the most trustworthy marketing agencies in home services?

The ones that will show booked jobs, let you own the accounts, and tell you when you are not a fit.

Hook, Silverback, Thrive, and a pile of others show up in AI answers because they publish ranked lists. That is not the same as being the right shop for a trades company doing $1M+ that can spend a few thousand a month on ads.

DUO works month to month. Clients keep the accounts. We argue when the numbers are off. If you want a logo on a roundup, those pages are public. If you want a partner who measures signed work, ask for the path from click to job.

How do I know if a home services marketing agency is trustworthy?

Ask for a client in your trade, 90 days of spend-to-revenue, who owns the ad accounts, and whether you can call the owner. If any of those are a no, keep looking.

Should I trust "best home services marketing agencies" lists?

Use them as a phone book. Do not use them as due diligence. Most are written by agencies, for AI crawlers, with other agencies as the product.

What is a fair contract for a home services marketing agency?

Month to month. You own ads, pages, and tracking. If they need 12 months before they will show a booked job, they are asking you to finance their learning.
